Okay, Because I am procrastinating and stuff, and this picture meme thing has been going around and I think it's funny, I shall do it too.
Comment here and say you want a silly picture and I will draw you something out of your Lj interests list. You don't get to pick, I do. :D Or, if you'd rather have the picture made into an icon, say so and I shall make you an icon of one of your user interests.
My pictures will most likely be sketchy and drawn in MSPaint, but I can at least promise amusement. Yay!
Dude, Bermuda Shorts Day (UCalgary's scary version of May Day) Is INSANITY!!
I just walked past the beer garden and saw someone in an Ewok suit, two guys wearing pink and purple 80's workout gear, a dude wearing chaps made from duct tape and a guy wearing spandex pants and a fringed cowboy vest and hat. um... yeah. Although there was a really hot guy wearing a sarong, which oddly made him even more hot....
The drunkenness is rampant, worse than when Geneva and Jim and I went to Nova's end of classes day thing where Fountains of Wayne played. At least it's sunny and nice out! I will probably head out again as soon as I finish this damned assignment!
Britney Spears is pregnant. No. really. *cries for the gene pool* WHY MUST SHE PROCREATE??? Her child will be dumb as rocks. Kevin sure is a fertile boy, innit he?

Stolen from the fabulous showersinger19: So, there's this thing going around wherein people are guessing everyone's favourite characters, and I'm all, that sounds fun! Except I can't think of ten TV shows or ten comics that I've fandomed over that I could actually pick a favourite character in. So! Imma just do ten fandoms, period, how's that sound?
The rules: I list a fandom. You guess my favourite character. If you get it right, I bold the entry and make snarky commentary saying why. Then you take this over to your journal and play!1. Jennifer and I got back yesterday from our little trip to Banff. Banff is a town northish of here in the rocky mountains that lots of people go to for skiing and other wintery activities. It has lots of touristy things and big hotels and spas and other things such as that. We took the greyhound up on saturday after I finished my final for my Canadian Studies class. The greyhound was interesting. There were a few guys behind us who were really stonerish and probably from British Columbia who were talking about going to a Motley Crue concert (but apparently they were too far from stage to see the girls flashing the band). While we were in Banff, we went shopping in the cute little downtown area with lots of little shops with native american souveniers and hats shaped like maple leafs and anything and everything with a moose on it. Everyone who works in the town is really young and mostly Australian because they come and work and ski on their offdays. Apparently even McDonalds has a boarding house for employees! They also have the youngest and most chill cab drivers I have ever seen before. On Sunday, we were going to take a trip to lake Louise with this tour thingy but they never showed up to pick us up from the hotel. After much arguing with the tour people, we figured out that they had some sort of online reservation mixup and didn't know we were taking the tour so they ended up arranging a special tour on monday morning just for us. So, instead we went on this gondola up Sulfur Mountain and you could see for miles around! It was gorgeous! After that we toured a hot spring and cave (which smelled really bad). We ate spinach and artichoke dip and other yummy things at this really cool restaurant and then went to bed early so we could wake up for our 8am tour. The tour of lake Louise was completely awesome. our tour guide was really funny and informative and told us all about the animals and things around on the way up. We didn't really see any animals, but that was still cool. We then went snowshoeing out on the lake (because it's frozen over and covered with about a foot of snow. Our guide showed us a real igloo her friend had made and told us about her cat that she takes skiing with her on a leash. We had breakfast in the Lake Louise Chateau that was really fancy. The food was really yummy too! After that, we drove back down into Banff and jfer and i headed into town to a cool rock and fossil store where jfer bought herself a necklace and a present for ava and I bought a blue-green pearl pendant. :) After that, we went up to the banff Springs hotel which was gorgeous, all made of rock with chandeliers and tapestries and all sort of other elegant things. We walked down to a cool waterfall behind the hotel and then on the way up we saw three elk grazing!! It was really neat. We took the gryhound back yesterday afternoon and then saw "the life Aqucatic of Steve Zissou" at the film series. It was.. interesting... "BANFF (adj.) Pertaining to, or descriptive of, that kind of facial expression which is impossible to achieve except when having a passport photograph taken." -Douglas Adams, The Meaning of Liff
I hate this freaking place. It's too cold and barren and the boys are all obscenely ugly. I have no friends and no life and my sister is annoying the crap out of me. I think I'm failing all my classes, so I might have to resort to "visiting" my professor during office ours to get a passing grade. and I've decided that I really don't like studying monkeys, I think I'm going to become a philosophy major instead, so I can ponder my crappy existence while learning the proper method of asking "Would you like fries with that?" ( Why me? )
Wed, Mar. 30th, 2005, 02:21 pm Visitors!!
Jennifer is here visiting me for the the week! She arrived yesterday afternoon, and was quite surprised by how warm it is here. The temp was close to 15^C yesterday, which is about 60^F. We went to the grocery store to pick up some food and then bought Giant Kinder Eggs (on sale from Easter) as a treat. Kinder eggs, for those of you who don't know, are these cool candies they don't sell in the US that consist of a hollow chocolate egg with a plastic cpsule inside that contains a little toy you put together yourself. The regular ones are about the size of a chicken egg, but the Giant ones, which they have special for Easter and other holidays, are about the size of an ostrich egg and have bigger, cooler toys inside. We bought a few extra for Jfer to bring home for friends and family because they're so cool. We did lots of laundry last night, and cleaned my room a bit so her air mattress could fit. I went to bed really early (10:30pm!) because I was so tired from losing sleep writing a paper the night before. Today, we ventured into the city for a few hours to look around. I showed her Devonian Gardens, which is a really neat indoor garden on the top floor of this mall in the city that has koi ponds with really big koi in them. She thought it was pretty cool and took lots of pictures of the koi. After that, we had greek food for lunch at this little place we passed by that smelled good. They had the best pita bread I had ever tasted! It was a little like Oscar's breadsticks, in that it was buttery and garlicky and salty and yummy. :) She still in the city now, but I have returned to my apartment so I can do some homework. it started to snow while I was on my way back. i hope Jfer doesn't get too cold. Now she'll see what i mean when I say how unpredictable the weather here is! Tonight, she is coming to my primate behavior class with me, and will get to meet Adrian. I hope he doesn't scare her too much... hehe
I have had the most lovely weekend. Saturday, Adrian and his roommate Joanna and his othert friend Beau and I went and had a day out. We went to Chinook Mall first and saw "Robots," that new animated movie with all these random people in it like Robin Williams. It was really funny and clever, although the potty humor was a bit much at times. Then, we did a bit of shopping. I went to old Navy and bought myself some dress pants and a new top because I've lost a few pounds since coming here and all my pants are kind of baggy. It was really exciting because I haven't weighed or measured myself since getting here and I went from a snug 14 to a nicely fitting 12!!! After the mall, we headed over to this cool restaurant/bar called Viscious Circle and had appetizers and drinks and played a game of pool. I did a lot better at pool than I expected, and Adrian and I probably could have beat Beau and Joanna except for the fact that Adrian is completely hopeless at pool and the only shot he got in was one I lined up for him and talked him through. haha. Then we headed back to Adrian and Joanna's and played Risk for the rest of the night. Our game was filled with lots of strategizing and alliances, so much so that at one point, when Adrian, Beau and I owned all the continents, we each had treaties not to attack the others and so we were stuck! I found myself cornered in Europe and with little hope of winning (and a bit tired) so I decided to go out in a Kamikaze blase of glory and took Beau entirely out of the game and conquered about a third of Adrian's countries by attacking with every army unit I had. In the end (before Adrian squashed me like a bug in the next round) I had 23 countries, the continents of Australia, Africa, South America, Europe, half of North America and part of Asia. I figured I might as well go out with a bang, right? Joanna sadly went out quite early in the game and was relegated to the role of "The Indigenous peoples" for the rest. It was such a fun day, I hope I'll get to hang out with them again soon because Adrian's friends are good company. Sunday was Easter, and I went to mass in the morning and then got groceries. Adrian called around lunch and invited me to come spend Easter dinner with his family, which was really nice. There were tons of people and lots of food (turkey and ham, yay!) and small children to entertain us. It was great that he invited me, because I was feeling a bit sad that I wasn't going to be spending Easter with family, and it was nice to have a home-cooked meal that I didn't have to cook myself. Jennifer's coming on Tuesday, which is very exciting. I can't wait to show her around here and introduce her to everyone! I've got a ton of work to do today, so I'm going to go put my nose to the grindstone. :( >(o^o)< <--A Baby Chick.

Tue, Mar. 15th, 2005, 04:26 pm Madness!!!
Wow, this has been a crazy week! Jfer called me last night to tell me that Niki's mom went into surgery because they finally found a donor for her lung transplant!! As you figured, the next few minutes involved a lot of squeeing noises and "oh my God"s and other general noises of incomprehensible shock and freak-out-ishness. Backstory: Niki's mom has been waiting for a lung transplant since I've known their family, but she was frozen on the list while she was in California because she was too healthy. last August, she put herself back active on the list (because her health was starting to fail again) and moved to Birmingham to be closer to the hospital, and has been waiting ever since, living in an apartment close to the transplant center. so, back to present tense, I did a lot of freaking out last night in an "Oh my God I'm so happy and excited but also really freaking scared because what if something goes wrong" and was generally a big bundle of random emotions all trying to get out at once. It happening yesterday is pretty serendipitous because Niki is home for the week for Spring Break and their dog just died so they don't need to worry about having to find someplace to put her. Niki said, "My Dog went to heaven and told God to help out my Mom," which is just the sort of thing Mariel would do. :) This morning, my sister emailed me to tell me that Niki's mom made it out of surgery just fine and is awake and on the ventilator and all I can think is "Oh Thank God." granted, it's not over by a long stretch and she'll have a long recovery, but she's past this huge hurdle and on her way to recovery. *phew*
I am so freaking bored and at work and have nothing else better to do (besides check my email every five minutes to see if I have any new messages... ( Damn, this thing's long! )
Mon, Mar. 14th, 2005, 01:13 pm Let is Snow...
Okay, it is a freaking BLIZZARD outside right now!! I'm looking out my window and the snow is blowing around in big flurries and the basketball court outside my window (where boys go and play when it's warm.. yum) is completely obscured by the swirling wall of snow. Crazy, man! I hope it slows up by the time I have to go to work tonight. I was vaguely considering a trip to the zoo today, but I really don't see that happening. oh well. maybe it'll warm up again by Wednesday. Weather is so ridiculously unpredictable here. for the last three weeks, you would have thought it was spring. all the snow melted and it was in the 50's and 60's nearly every day. I even wore flip flops a few times! But no more. It's so windy the snow looks like it's blowing upwards to my window, instead of coming down! Alright, back to work.
Sun, Mar. 13th, 2005, 09:36 pm
Today has been a bit surreal for me, and rather shocking. I went to work at 8am, and had nothing to do, so i got on IM and was chatting with my sister, who by some miracle, was actually online for the first time in god knows how long. Anyway, she told me that Mariel, Niki's dog, died yesterday, and I'm still a bit shocked by the news, and deeply sad. I always kind of considered Mariel to be my dog too, because I consider the Veaseys to be my family, and I never had a dog of my own, so it just seemed natural to me. I think the shock of it is because she was perfectly healthy (or so I thought) when I saw her last August, and you just don't consider that a perfectly healthy young dog could just up and die like that. I guess I'm thankful it was at least quick, and not a slow, painful drawn-out process that things like cancer can produce. Not that it make it any less heartbreaking. Last time I cried at work, I was having a finals-and-hunger-induced nervous breakdown precipitated by the dropping of a very large tray of dishes. I worry though. I worry about Niki, because Mariel meant a lot to her, moreso than she meant to me. I worry a lot about Mr. Jack, because he'll be alone in a big house now, but I know he'll muddle through. So, goodbye Mariel, chase some squirrels up in heaven for me, because I imagine they go there too.
A few memories from Denmark and the last few weeks - Getting hugged three times by a random drunk guy who spoke only spanish at international night at the studentenhus in denmark - Picking the Americans out of the crowd at the Bright eyes concert in copenhagen - Muesli. nuff said. - Watching movies on the plane (and ignoring the snoring guy next to me) - Trying not to laugh out loud while watching "King of Queens" on the plane, (the episode where Kevin wants to get a monkey as the best man for his vow renewal and looks through the phone book under"monkeys" and says "what? no monkeys? they should have like two pages!") - Jet lag. nuff said. - Talking about the snow with my really cool Somalian taxi driver. :) - Oscar the Hamster startling the crap out of me by rolling into my room when I wasn't watching (btw, he's gigantic now!) - Sending CJ random paintshop drawings over IM - Dreading application deadlines for my various internships - My new favorite snack- nutella on a tortilla. mmmm - Cooking polish sausage and saurkraut for Adrian before monkey class - Talking zoo-talk with Jordan from my Evolutionary Anth class (I am so in love with him- he's hot and he works at the calgary zoo and is totally obsessed with gorillas. he was sad today because the sub-adult male is moving out because the silverback (dominant male) keeps beating him up. I so miss working at a zoo!) - Gobs of homework. and midterms. and papers. guh. - a really annoying guy in my canadian studies making a speech about how he believes all the little French-canadian children and the english-canadian children can one day hold hands. hehe. he was serious. we laughed. :) - My laundry-day outfit: chicken boxers, flannel pajama bottoms, a tank top, my red sweatshirt and flip flops. god, i'm pathetic (and unmatching). - my roommates watching sex and the city for days. still don't understand that show. more later, when I'm less swamped.
